Sport Management Program
The Bachelor of Science degree program in Sport Management allows students
to pursue a broad core program with a specialization in sport administration. Courses
in the core program are interdisciplinary with the Sport Management program and
the Business Administration program. The Sport Management program prepares students
to become highly-trained managers who find success in complex and varied sport settings.
The sport management field presents numerous career opportunities.
Administrative
positions in athletics, intramural sports, recreation programs and professional
sports organizations also employ our graduates. The program prepares graduates to
work in the sport business community at the professional, collegiate, commercial
and private levels.
A minimum grade of āCā or better is required in each major course, including concentration
courses.

Objectives
Each student will be able to demonstrate:
- The role, duties and responsibilities of professional individuals in sport.
- The use of professional skills in computer technology.
- Sound business procedures and skills in solving administrative or managerial problems
that relate to equipment and supplies, facilities and the law.
- Professional skills in staff relations, personnel matters and public relations.
- Skills in budgeting, event management, accounting, marketing and purchasing that
are relevant to the specific field of study.
- Effective management/communication styles in multicultural and diverse settings.
- Intense involvement with the community by participating and organizing various service
and leadership projects.
Requirements for Admission
- Completion of sixty (60) semester hours of course work.
- An earned minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50.
- Presentation of an academic portfolio developed under the supervision of a faculty
member in Sport Management.
Internship
Students who plan to enroll in internships must apply with a faculty member
in Sport Management for an internship placement. The internship is a sixty-day clinical experience in the field of sport. Most field experience placements and other clinical experiences,
including observations, are made outside of the greater Orangeburg,
South
Carolina, area. To enroll in internship the student must be classified as a senior and must have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.5.
