Master’s of Education in Educational Studies, with an Emphasis in Teacher Leadership
Beginning in Fall 2006, Claflin University will offer a 15-month Master’s Degree program
for certified teachers. The program is a part-time field-based program that is specifically
designed to meet the needs of practicing teachers within a school, a school district
or geographic area. This customized degree program offers teachers a unique opportunity
to engage in an academic experience that combines face-to-face instruction with
Internet based content over a period of six (6), nine week sessions. Application
to the program, registration and requests for financial aid will be processed on
site to accommodate teachers in the cohort.
The master’s program will be aligned with the National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards (NBPTS). The School of Education at Claflin is accredited by the National
Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). A special emphasis will
be placed on developing teacher-leaders, individuals who can serve as instructional
coaches, to further enhance building-level teaching and learning.
