Fort Jackson Teacher Education Program - Columbia, SC
The School of Education at Claflin University, in conjunction with personnel from
the Army Education Center at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, will offer undergraduate degree programs in
Elementary Education and Middle Level Education at Fort Jackson beginning in Summer 2006. The new program
site will specifically address the need for more elementary and middle school certified teachers in South Carolina schools. The program, designed for active duty service members, retirees,
adult family members and civilians, provides the opportunity
for individuals with training and experience in the military to switch careers once
they have completed thier service experiences. The curriculum focuses on the professional core of courses
required for a degree in either Elementary Education (certification level 2-6) or
Middle Level Education (certification level 5-8). Prior to enrollment, program participants
must have completed 45-60 semester hours of college coursework and passed all parts
of the Praxis I standardized test.
