This course is designed for students who are pursuing a career in teaching young children. The course’s major purpose is to acquaint each student with the developmental process of beginning literacy. In addition to describing children’s learning process, details on how learning works with oral language acquisition will be explored. A major focus will be on pre-school children and the need to validate the importance of play in the child’s literacy development. Field experience required.
